Vest Recycling Project

Doing some good

We have a proud history of supporting our military men, women, and their families. When we changed the dress code for our store associates in 2007, we found a special way to express our appreciation to the troops, and protect the environment at the same time.

We collected millions of associate vests

Instead of sending those vests to landfills, we recycled them into lap blankets. Working with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), we sent 5,000 blankets to injured soldiers returning from war zones, and to veterans in VA hospitals and homes. We’re making new, never-worn vests into “wheelchair caddies” for patients in VA and children’s hospitals.

More than just blankets and caddies

We worked with the recycling company, Sustainable Solutions, and Hallmark to create 100,000 greeting cards for troops overseas to send to their families and loved ones back home. The “Thinking of You” and holiday cards were distributed to troops as part of our 2007 “Adopt a Unit” holiday program.
