United Way Worldwide
United Way is a movement of nearly 1,300 United Ways in the U.S. working to advance the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all by focusing on education, income, and health – the building blocks for a good quality of life. United Way recruits people and organizations who bring the passion and expertise needed to create long-lasting change. A gift to United Way is an investment in your local community. It takes everyone working together to create a brighter future. The Walmart Foundation has supported United Way Worldwide and its affiliates at a national level since 1983. When a Walmart or Sam's Club associate donates to United Way Worldwide through an optional payroll deduction program, the Walmart Foundation matches that contribution dollar-for-dollar up to 8 million dollars. In 2011, associates and the Walmart Foundation contributed more than $12 million to more than 1,300 local United Way affiliates through this program.
Recently, the Walmart Foundation teamed up with United Way Worldwide and other organizations to help families prepare and file their taxes for free as well as claim refunds and valuable credits like the earned income tac credit (EITC).
