Walmart Foundation Scholarship Programs

At the Walmart Foundation, we believe that a good education creates opportunities that lead to a better life. To help offset rising college tuition costs, we recently awarded more than $10million in academic scholarships to help students enroll in higher education in the 2011-2012 school year.

The Walmart Foundation offers two scholarship programs that benefit Walmart associates and their high school senior dependents. To learn more about these programs or to apply, click on the links below.

Walmart Associate Scholarship

The Walmart Associate Scholarship is a college scholarship that is available associates in any division of Walmart and Sam’s Club. Associates must be based in the U.S. and should demonstrate financial need and involvement in their community.

The Walmart Associate Scholarship is available for associates seeking certificates, associates, bachelors, and graduate degrees through accredited institutions of higher education and for associates participating in the Lifelong Learning Program through American Public University. The Foundation accepts applications and awards Walmart Associate Scholarships four times a year, as shown in the chart below.


*Note: You must have been employed at least 6 months prior to the Scholarship Launch Date below

The Walmart Dependent Scholarship

Application Period Opens January 3, 2012 and ends March 15, 2012.

The Walmart Dependent Scholarship is a $13,000 scholarship paid out over four years. *Applicants must be dependents of Walmart or Sam’s Club associates in any U.S. division, have at least a 2.0 high school GPA and prove financial need.

The Walton Family Foundation Scholarship is no longer accepting applications. Those persons previously awarded scholarships will continue to receive their payments as previously determined.

The Sam Walton Community Scholarship has been discontinued.

*Prior to January 2012, the Walmart Dependent Scholarship was not renewable. Scholars who were selected prior to January 2012 are subject to the terms and conditions in effect at the time they received the award and are not eligible to renew their scholarships.
