Fighting Hunger Together Enables Americans to Get Involved this Spring
During the month of April, Walmart customers helped provide meals to families in need by purchasing select products in Walmart stores or by visiting Walmart's Facebook page to vote for one of 200 communities to receive $1 million to fight hunger. WIth more than 98,000 votes, Youngstown-Warren, Ohio secured $1 million in grants through Walmart's "Fighting Hunger Together" Facebook campaign. The 20 communities with the next highest amount of support each received $50,000.
Our $2 billion commitment includes four key components:
Donating more than 1.1 billion pounds of food from Walmart stores, distribution centers and Sam’s Club locations, valued at $1.75 billion;
Grants totaling $250 million to support hunger relieforganizations at the national, state and local levels;
Mobilizing Walmart associates and customers. For example, Walmart’s logistics team will lend their expertise to help food banks become more efficient in their operations; and
Collaboration with government, food manufacturers and other corporations that are fighting hunger to increase impact and reach a greater number of families in need.
