Kids Recycling Challenge

Every year, nearly one trillion plastic shopping and grocery bags are used globally. The vast majority end up in a landfill. Through the Kids Recycling Challenge, the Wal-Mart Foundation is partnering with elementary school students in 12 states to prevent these bags from ever reaching the landfill. Recycling plastic shopping bagsThe Wal-Mart Foundation sends each school that registers for the challenge two collection bins and 60-gallon plastic collection bags. Students collect their plastic bag waste throughout the year and bring them to their local Wal-Mart store for recycling on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during recycling hours. Recycling paysEach school receives a $5 credit for each 60-gallon plastic collection bag its students bring to their local store. At the end of the program year, we also reward the first, second and third place winners with a monetary award.
