Ethical Sourcing
It’s our responsibility to ensure that the products we sell in our stores are not only safe for our customers, but that they’re produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. Our Ethical Standards team of more than 200 associates —Is one of the most active ethical sourcing programs in the retail industry. The team monitors factories, educates suppliers and buyers, and works with others in our industry to implement effective ethical sourcing programs. We set standards for our suppliersWhile we don’t own, operate, or manage any factories, our Ethical Standards team verifies that our supplier factories are in compliance with our “Standards for Suppliers” and with local law. Our ethical standards and compliance requirements deal with issues such as: - Compliance with local and national laws and regulations
- Compensation
- Hours of labor
- Forced/prison labor
- Underage labor
- Discrimination
- Freedom of association and collective bargaining
- Employee health and safety
- Environmental protection
We make sure those standards are being followedMost importantly, our suppliers agree to the right of audit by Wal-Mart. That means we can visit our suppliers to make sure they're in compliance with our ethical standards. Every year, we produce an ethics report with a complete analysis of the thousands of audits performed by our team. Read the most recent report.
