In a country where women often don’t have opportunities for training and career development, the Bharti Walmart Training Center offers short-term vocational certification courses that equip candidates to become floor and sales assistants or supervisors through a special curriculum developed by Walmart in partnership with Centum Learning Systems.
All students enrolled in the program are awarded a 100 percent scholarship. To date, more than 6,300 students have been certified, and 2,100 have been placed in various jobs, 400 of which are in Best Price and Easy Day stores. One such student is Amandeep Kaur, a young woman from a village just outside of Amritsar. According to Amandeep, “I didn’t want to get married at an early age; I wanted to learn skills and become self reliant.”
After learning about the Bharti Walmart Training Center, Amandeep enrolled in the program where, “her zeal and determination to rise above the average was clearly evident,” said Monika Mehra, the training center head. “I noticed distinct improvement in her confidence and abilities to interact and communicate with people.”
Amandeep said her experience at the Bharti Walmart Training Center taught her many things, including retail and wholesale skills, good communication skills and product knowledge. Upon graduation, she was placed as a sales associate at the Best Price wholesale store in Amritsar.
